They are not brain dead at all. Rather they will appeal to those that think they can save a few dollars and get a free cordless phone set out of the deal, when in reality they know all to well that the complaints will come pouring in after the sub tries a self install and fails. That will then generate a truck roll and a chargeable trouble/service call that is now billable to the customer and presto chango....... no need to pay a contractor to perform an install, and they figure that their in house guys are out running service/trouble calls anyway so they might as well just keep that chaching machine greased up and rolling.
