I came here to ask if there were ANY linemen who still hooked a pole and I saw there are still plenty of you out there. CATV is what it is today because of linemen. Primes may get the work but without linemen they are just a bunch of people trying to figure out just how in the hell they are going to get the cable to stay up in tree. Poles have no branches and therefore they can't get up to attach anything. 18 years ago when my husband and I first married you NEVER saw a lineman in a bucket. They were a proud bunch that did what they had to do and did it WELL. Burning a pole was a hazard every lineman faced every day. Now it seems to be just a bad excuse as to why they can't climb. Green poles, rotten poles, ones that looked like McDonald's arches were all climbed. Cutting out if things went bad was part of the job. My husband has trained 3/4 of his workers because all but 2 linemen that applied for the job wanted at LEAST 80% bucket work. He now has ex-tree trimmers, factory workers, etc.etc. climbing. I just wish that he could have found a good group of guys like yourselves. Take care and God Bless a true lineman. Hope everyone of you climb til you are ready to sit in a rocking chair under a shade tree with an ice cold one in your hand and a cooler full under your feet.
