Exactly. You really need to be a genuine business that can survive without a particular client. If the loss of a client can shut your doors, then you are dependent and as such should be an employee. You should be able to do work for every john, dick, and harry that comes your way or at least a majority of them. If losing a contract with Company X would put you out of "business" then you aren't really in business for yourself.
I would go see an accountant or at least talk to a payroll company like ADP.
