The National Electric Code says you need to bury your
drops 18" or protect them 8' up the side of the house
if you are running voltage down the drop. If you can't or
will not do this, you need a fault protection device. This
device detects an "open" or a "short". If a "short" or an "open"
is detected, the voltage stops at the Tap. The fault protection
device is there to protect the subscriber from shock hazard.
I am building this fault protection device. If you would like to
learn more, contact me via e-mail (-REDACTED-) .
