again i'm going to say that's wrong. the gas line is not grounded in series with the outlet that the hair dryer is on. as for the gas meter acting as a faraday cage this is true, the energy is conducted along the outside of the conducor, however, the gas meter has threaded joints, and at any point where contact is minutely broken an arc can occur. bottom line is don't ground to a gas meter. i've seen it 3 times. once i was qc'ing and we pulled him off his route to fire him. second was in house and i don't know what they did with the pictures. the third was on a trouble call for dish that i had to rewire the whole house to get an acceptable ground to the copper water line about 25 feet from the gas meter. DO NOT GROUND TO GAS METERS!
