Times Fiber and TelePrompTer Inc put the first fiber project in 1976. It was an 800 foot run to carry HBO from the roof top to the headend in a downtown high rise.
The second application was in Lompoc CA in the fall of 1978. A run from the antenna site to the head end. the fiber carried 12 channels ( LA TV?) for 8.4 kM on two fibers.

It has grown from there.
How about almost 30 years of fiber in cable
