I do not think it is that simple.
If he pleads guity to a higher charge he knows Goodell will boot him, so his lawyer(s) has to find a conviction where all three (Vick, the Fed's, Goodell) can walk away with their heads high, believing righteousness was secured.
His lawyer could possibly do that with a lesser charge of, I don't know - maybe some conspiracy to profit from an illegal activity charge, but if the Fed's are pushing for interstate gambling or some kingpin charge Vick is pretty much screwed. I cannot see him pleading guilty in that scenario, regardless of what the fed's have on him.
I heard on ESPN tonight that he was not going to plead guilty after all. I do not know if the talking heads were doing a little fishing of their own but that is what they said.
