Avoid FIAT currencies. Those are currencies which are backed by nothing. This is the case with the US dollar. The dollar is supposed to be backed by gold and silver but that ended with the passage of the Federal Reserve Act. Fiat currencies lose value and so you end up needing more of it to purchase the same goods.
Don't buy on credit. When you do, you pay the merchant once and the banker twice.
Don't lend money. What you get in return will likely be worth less than what you lent to begin with.
