does the check engine light stay on?

if so check the codes or try disconnecting the pos cable on battery for 30 secs and it will rest the comp to factory default.

Just had the same thing happen with my explorer. It vapor locked. Due to the gas cap not venting properly. I replaced the cap but still had a rough running motor. until I reset the comp.
