it seems to me that you are talking about making it a lighting rod in its self. the drop that is because you are grounding it at the pole to strand and then at the house. so then if you get a lighting stikes anywhere on the pole side it will feed down into the house ground. then either into the house or into the power meter to blow the whole thing up if it is a direct strike within a close range. but hey what do i know just my 2 cents on the subject.
