From one that works with Japanese on a regular basis, when it comes to jobs where they have to think on their own they can't do it. They will not make any decision by them-selfs. Everything is decided by the bosses and on a job site there are more bosses than you can count. Only after a majority decides what to do will they do anything. That way if they decide wrong no one is to blame.
I amaze and piss them off all the time because I make on the spot decisions on how to correct a problem and 99% of the time it's the correct thing to do. The one time I have been wrong in the 6 years working here I have admitted I was wrong and correct the problem on the spot again. But my jobs are always completed ahead of schedule, no matter if it's a plant extension or a custom post wire.
That really pisses them off, and me and my crew laugh all the way to the bank.
If everyone is thinking alike, someone isn't thinking.
