There are 2 ways to do this. Option 1 you don't need a headend but it makes life more hard. Heres the reason you have a reciever on top or near each tv to control what is shown on the tv... plus the extra per reciever each month. In this option yes get a bigger switch. HOWEVER,

Use a headend. The decision on stacked or not stacked does not really matter. What matters is how your going to use your system. What I would do is decide how many different Channels you want and order that many recievers. Example if you have 8 sport channels you like to have in there and 16 tvs you dont need 16 recievers. So you will save those occuring fees for additonal recievers. A headend is designed to put all the recievers in 1 spot and operate on channel numbers. So if you want to change the channel you do it on the TV showing 1 of the 8 channels in trhe sinario.
IN other words you could have 3 tvs showing channel 1, 5 tv showing ch 2 and 1 tv shoing channel 3 and they would be 3 different channels. So decide how many recievers or channels you really want.
