Very sad news indeed. Manholes are not to be taken lightly a few died in on here years ago. Its a safety thing. If you dont have a known good gas detector dont go in one. It could be the last thing you ever do. They need to be checked properly for poison gas (before removing lid) and even then they need to be continually ventilated. Very sorry for the families . I'm supposing gas, could have been a cable snapping pulling something in,in which case they shouldn't have been in there then either. I smell lawsuits for sure.
