Much of the bandwith for wireless is already sold, plus the speeds and security aren't fully developed as of yet. Yes there is promise but coverage is still limited. As with Cellular now more and more space is needed for infrastructure, and sharing agreements will be needed. In the 90's it was thought that all signals could be carried on one large resource and companies would buy off that one carrier what ever service was desired. However many players vide to be the ONE, now we have an abundence of fiber chriscrossing the country and no where near capacity. It have proven more profitable to keep control of one's own structured network... Image TNT sells their programing to Level 3. Then Level 3 who now passes 300,000,000 homes sells signal to Evergreen a local carrier with the local fibernet who then sells it to 3 different carriers in your area. At present your cable company buys from TNT direct. and rates are set according to then number of subscribers on your companies system. Now this number is reported to TNT through the converter control system..... But if anybody can resale signal who now has control of TNT's programing. Who can you call when your bill is not right. The Cable industry isn't the weak second fiddle to the telco's it once was.... it does run with the big boys. That's why AT&T wants back in!!!
