Re: looking for friends from alaska

I remember a Leroy Derock running the coax crew during the Fairbanks expansion. I just started climbing that year and got on through IBEW. I was just 18 years old and stabbed my left inside ankle with my gaff the second day framing and hanging strand. What a dumbass huh? But I wouldn't tell anybody and didn't lose an hour of work I let my sock soak up the blood and wrapped it up that night. Was moved to the coax crew after about a month and stayed there through the rest of the summer. We never had a bucket truck or a Tanaka drill through the entire project, all gaffs and braces. Those were badass lineman that taught me the real way back then. I remember a foreman named Dean that climbed without pads on his hooks and had them adjusted so low they barely cleared his ankle bones. I wouldn't be where I'm at if it wasn't for guys like them.
