Another thing cable companies can do is offer local channels from outside their local market. My local DMA is Huntsville and Comcast has 2 ABC's, 1 from Huntsville and 1 from Birmingham. This is also the case in Middle Tn with Charter, where I usually work.
I guess if you are a huge multi-national corporation you can get the FCC to do what you want which leaves satellite customers out to dry on this one.
The shame is, satellite companies have the channels readily available if the FCC would allow the signal to be recieved in different dma's.

In the end, we all profit from more competition within our industry and the customers benefit as well. I just wish the satellite companies would stop the outside local viewing that is happening.
