There is no such widely acknowledged term in the industry. Comcast is trying to coin a new term for marketing (read sales!!!) purposes. Anything above dial-up is considered "broadband".

There are a couple of things to remember here. First there are already standards in place for 10+ gigabit technology to the desktop. So it sounds like they are catching up not passing up.

Secondly, Windows Server has this nice little feature called bandwidth throttling that allows the site administrator to decide how much speed any one connection gets. The default is 256K if I remember correctly but rarely if ever is it set over 1 meg. Remember that weakest link in the chain thing! So, the moral of the story is don't be dazzled by a dog and pony show set up in a controlled environment, it is not "real world".
