I watched a TV show on this one time, They use otdr's something like we do and use a winch to snag the fiber and pull it onto the boat, these guys are under a microscope when it comes to quality control to say the least. I doubt that there are too many openings in this field due to the fact of ''how much fiber'' can there be down there? And you know one or two large companies already have the contracts for this line of work. You would probably have a better shot at becoming a linebacker for the Steelers,lol
