you get ingress in the situations i described above, because the partial shielding of most cable allows it, every fitting adds to it as they are less shielded than the cable itself essentially the cable becomes an antenna. the longer the run the bigger the antenna. add to that the fact that the receiver is limited by the fcc as to it's output capacity and what you wind up with is ingress. the dishnetwork help option under modulation (press menu, 6,1,5 on your dish remote then choose help) will discuss this in a limited way in lay terms. my real goal was understanding of why it's a problem one way and an impossible configuration the other.
