IMO, you speak up during the time you are going over the contract. 9 times outta 10 the screwing is writing. Contracts in this industry are VERY 1 sided. Speak before you sign.
Most contracts installers sign dont have any problem resolution language in it. Only thing thats usually covered is how to resolve an issue that is caused by the installer. These companies usually have no contractual obligation to resolve problems, caused by them, with you. Sometimes I know many of us have seen where the contract asks us to waive many of our legal rights . This and more is why I say speak up before signing the contract.
If none of this applies, then I say speak up as soon as you have become aware of the problem. If you wait it may not look good if you ever decide to go to court. Gives them leverage to say alot of things, like the problem never occured.
