good texas story
i was flirting with this, but here goes........i'm extremely happy with the company that i work for. i do dish installs as a sub. they piss me off constantly and by gones are never by gones, you pay for your mistakes out of your check and there is all the argument you want to make, but if you screw up you eat it. sometimes (like everywhere you eat it when it was no fault of your own) but over all i make money, they make a point to keep me tight. when i've left and came back they prepay me what i need so long as my production covers it.......they like me and my work so my work always covers it. i usually get home early by cable/sat standards and when i do have a dispute, they do actually research the issue. again i still sometimes eat it when it wasn't my fault, but i'm allowed to stand by my standards and they do the same. it's run like a business, but not an office, and i'm having a ball. many others don't feel the same, but i've decided (and have to decide on a daily basis) that i'm just going to take what comes my way that day and do my best with it, like i used to. it's working so far and everyone is happy. my favorite line from the owner when i told him a customer changed their mind after a 5 hour install and i was asking for a light route on a certain day so i could go back and fix it for free........."who's paying you to do that?" i said no body just didn't want a huge escalation he tells me "that's ****, i don't work for free, you don't work for free!" i love that philosophy in a company.
