It can be very difficult, depends on which one you would be taking. I am BDS certified and found that one to be about a 4 on a scale of 1 easy to 10 hardest. It also depends on your experience. Right now some of the exam questions are from NCTI. It is open book exam also and it's timed too, so you must be able to find your answers quickly. That's were experience comes into play, because you may know 8 out of 10 questions without looking them up, but then those extra 2 may take you 30 minutes to figure out.
I highly recommend taking the SCTE certification and NCTI. What I did was went for my Senior Master Tech from NCTI and then started taking the SCTE certification. I used the books from NCTI to assist me with my SCTE certification.
If you plan on making it a career go for it. I've been working in cable for 15years for an MSO and it has played a BIG roll in getting promotions.
