Personally though, I think a much better approach by you would be to just do your work properly and stay away from the known scams and houses which take over 60% of the gross. Just say no, as it were.
Here, as an example:
You: Hi. I am a hardworking professional who does not need to have his hand held. My customer support skills are great and I have never hacked a job in my life. I am interested in your contract in but would first like to know the company leading the project.
Them: Great to hear from you! We only hire the best of the best and have never been known to withhold a penny. We QC 200% of the work and never hire bums. Our company name is <Telstar, Hope, just about ANY satelite company, Prince, et el>
