I generally oppose government regulation. The government should only be preventing the monopolization of the marketplace and the outsourcing of jobs and similar things. However, regulating industry is not a good practice. The government would simply use this as an opportunity to tax away any income gains we make.
This is a temporary situation that will fail. When the good techs leave, there will be nothing but bad techs. The subsequent rise in subscriber churn will force the platform providers to re-assess their situation. Their initial response is to raise penalties. This will squeeze out those companies with business models that don't support well-paid techs who know their stuff. It will leave many hack techs with several thousand in owed money. This is the stage we are in currently.
Eventually, there won't be any credible companies that will take the rates offered. The providers will have to try and bring in legitimate companies. Those companies will want better money because they can assess the financials of the contract realistically. These companies will also be pro-active about preventing chargeback situations. With this type of business model, the pay will gradually return.
This industry can manage itself, it doesn't need the government taking our money to help us.
