You've listed some bitches that you attribute to linemen--but you really oughta throw them rocks elsewheres. The guy who placed the incorrect tap-he was a SPLICER. Some splicers are linemen and vise-versa, but not usually. And a tap's faceplate is usually a 3-4 screw affair-no way near an hour's work.
AND...WTF re: "quick fixes"? Most "quick fixes" I can think of are by necessity, a temporary measure. ANY COMPETENT LINEMAN avoids such risky shit-duh, because his/others lives are at stake!
I'm uncertain what horrors you describe as a backwards splice...As an installer, how often do you get gigged for having backwards F-81's?
