Well if you dont have one on the bird that option is out,the kit I bought was a dual feed c/ku so it could still work if you happen to be on the bird with a current dish. I would think you could get a stand alone receiver if you did go this route but I'd check first. The off air I tuned this way used a dsr4500 so it wasnt a problem.
Depending on your location in the USA your satellites co-ordinates will be given in X amount of degrees west of true north(this is left or right ) then once this is found (with compass) you"ll set your azimuth, in my area this is usually 45 degrees for dish network. This is the tilt or angle of the dish pointing up. On small dishes I've seen this adjustment is labeled on the dishmount. Be sure you have 18volts dc present at lnb when tuning dish. If your buying a dish they usually come with good enough instructions to walk you through the process.
