Well its like you said, do the math. If you measure the noise on the drop with your meter (move the marker to the highest point of amplitude in your return spectrum) and then depending on the tap value eg. 23 value tap with +10 dB ob noise = -13 dB getting in the system vrs. a 23 value tap with -10 dB of noise = -33 dB of noise. Dont need to filter that - 10 on a 23 value tap but if its
-10 on a 4 value tap do the math.

Its going to depend on the system specs, rules for breaking service and the size of the node as to how you'll want to troublehoot/find the problems, but just checking every drop is not troubleshooting/finding and is way to time consuming.
