PHILADELPHIA (WBOC/AP)- Comcast Corporation on Tuesday said it is planning to hire 2,800 people for its East Coast cable division.

That should include new jobs on Delmarva.

The Philadelphia-based cable operator says it's the result of the popularity of its promotional package of video, Internet and phone services.

The new hires will mainly work in jobs that deal directly with customers.

The new additions will boost Comcast's work force to more than 17,000 in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Comcast's discounted $99 a-month "triple play" package is good for a year. After the promotion, the cost rises to about $130 a month.

A spokeswoman says more than one in three new customers is taking the triple play bundle.
