It's rare to hear a comment like that from an in-house tech in the system I'm in. Every Contractor and EVERY in-house department knows that when it comes to completion-rate, quality of install, sales, and overall customer satisfaction: the contractor's are beating the crap out of the in-house tech. In-house knows the pay is better and they want to come work with us. They get disappointed and frustrated when we tell them that we are discouraged from hiring former in-house techs less than 60-days from in-house release.
If it's coming from a customer, I usually offer the sub the option to have a less experienced and lesser trained in-house tech come out and perform their install..... Then the questions start up and I explain hourly -vs- piece-rate. Most subs have a refreshing new view on you being "....just a contractor".
