I always refuse to sign non-compete form unless the new company is teaching me something new. If I am using skills which I already have, there is no way I would sign away my livelihood.
In 1998 I was working for an alarm company in Baton Rouge, when I could see the writing on the wall (sinking ship signs). I went to a new company. The owner of the first company showed up at my new job with my file in hand, with intentions of forcing me to come back to work for him. However I planned ahead and signed my non-compete form as MICKEY MOUSE. They never read it, they just stuck it in my file.
