Re: A union, is it time

I agree with oldschooldbstech. Unionizing is a very difficult task. Just about impossible. The process as it stands is not very worker freindly.

Just curious OSG, if you will tell everyone what that 12% is for. Isn't it for med insurance, pension contributions, annuity, and things like that. OR are you telling everyone that they are paying 12% dues a week. Or, is it you don't know either way.

Also can you tell us what the weekly salary they are making?

Also about how much do you think installers in cable and sat are losing, if any, by being miss-classified as subs and not getting paid for all the over 40hrs weeks they have worked.

Vegas mentioned something about the intelligence level displayed by some in this field. This is a good example of what I think he was talking about. OSG's logic and probably many others here is that 12% of $1200 that was, earned in a legal work environment, done in 40 hours, done without worker paying w/c and G/L is worse when compared to the best scenario of a cable worker making 1200/wk paying his own taxes, med ins and GL, working 6 days to get the 1200, having no pension or retirement savings plan, and working in an illegal work environment where he is mis-classified and looses out on OT.

Only in cable......The math here is simply amazing. Forget the union or no union. But at least do the right math.
