12%? That's steep! The last I checked, experienced electricians are not being replaced with $10 hourly ex-McD's "teks".
The only evil from unions I have witnessed are the evil committed by desparately greedy companies who will stoop to the lowest undignified tactics known to the professional world.
As I stated before, if you are the head of a household and providing for a family, do NOT engauge in union talks of any kind. If you are basically installing as a hobby, then feel free to speak your mind as you like on the subject.
