Go to irs.gov and download an ss-8 form. File that on him and also file a complaint with the Illinois dept of labor. Chances are, you will be re-classified as an employee and that will really screw him over. Let the IRS know if he has other "contractors" doing the same type of work.
Also, by getting re-classified, you get certain protections from the state such as the state will usually go after him for the money. In some states, the state will pay you and go after the employer. No matter what, if you do this, it will certainly help your case in court if it comes down to having to do that to get paid.
File the ss-8, at the very least, it will trigger an IRS audit of his company, and chances are, his books are not in order.
