Re: Mode Field and Core Mismatches

It must be a lot of bad spools. I've been talking to some splicers working out in west Texas and they are finding 3-6 events while testing a reel. They finally got everyone involved, including the manufacturer. The spec was nothing higher than a .15 from one direction. Now they are allowing up to a .27 from one direction. WOW! My high ones are about .20 to .26 with a -.17 to a -.22 on either side. The light insertion tests turn out just fine, but the OTDR traces aren't real pretty. Don't get me wrong, 90% are rocket shots, it's just those few ugly ones are frustrating. At first we thought the core alignment machines were at fault (Fuji & Sumo) but when we pulled out the M90's, there was no difference. Why can't the vendors just buy Siecor glass? Yeah, I know, $$$$$$$$$$$$
