Here's a handy link. It explains power output and impendence changes when you hook up multiple speakers. For a standerd surround sound you don't need to worry about it, but I find a lot of people want the whole house audio. Today I installed 8 stereo in-ceiling speakers in a local restaurant. He wanted them on 2 separate zones, 1 zone with 3 speakers and the other with 5 speakers. I ended up with about 10 ohms per channel which is good, but if you go below 4 ohms, many receivers will over heat and burn out real quick.
