I can't speak as far as what they require contractors to do for installation. I beleive at least in this area we only do VoIP installs inhouse. I'm a headend tech for Charter and have been out of the installer loop for about 10years. Here is some technical info on the VoIP.
Uses different upstream/downstream frequencies from the HSD
256qam down/ 16qam up
Arris MTA (cable modem)
VoIP Codec G.711
Required testing after installation:
Signal leakage Test
Ingress Test
Input to modem -12dB to +12dB (as close to 0 as possible)
Transmit level around 40dB to 50dB
MOS(Mean Opinion Score) 4.0
R-Factor 90
Latency 100ms
Jitter 20ms
The techs in this area are using Trilithic 860DSPi for most of the testing.
