When I contracted I frequently got stiffed by Cable Companies but rarely passed on the loss to my subs. I went on the theory that if the subs were doing what they were supposed to do, they should be paid, even if I am not. One example would be a Cable Company orders an audit and after a week, changes their mind on the audit and refuses to pay the bill claiming the audit was not authorized by upper management. I would still pay my people on time for the auditing they did and deal with the swindling cable company for months after, usually getting my money. Stiffing my subs due to the contract breach of the cable company was always out of the question.
