The way pocketdish works is like this, you record your shows on you dish dvr, then daily you download it to your pocket dish. You can store up to 40 hours of programming. And the upshot of the pocketdish is that you can record from any a/v source that doesn't have copyright encription i.e. DVD.
Both products are unique to each company, however there is a dish dome which RV'ers can connect either the Dtv or Dish, which is something cable providers can't offer.
