This same time of thing happened to me recently on ebay. I bidded on an item and at the very last minute someone out bidded me. A few days later I got an e-mail that the person that outbid me could not make payment on the item. So I wrote back that I would still purchase the item at my last bid amount and the seller said that would be good, he told me to paypal the money to him and he would ship the item the next day. I sent him another e-mail saying don't bother shipping it I could drive down and pay and pick the next day since it wa only about a 100 mile drive.
I never heard from him again, I sent the seller another e-mail about 3 days later with no response back. Then a week later seen the same item back on ebay again for sale.
