They could solve the multiple household/same account problem by incorporating cross-receiver communication. Receivers can be told via data sent from DTV or Dish that there are other receivers on the account and the receivers can then verify the presence of the other receivers on the account via the coaxial connection. If the other receivers aren't detected, then the receiver locks out programming and displays a message to call DTV or Dish. The platform provider can then have the customer verify the cause. Some will be legitimate such as customer unhooking a box for some reason. In those cases, the provider can suspend that box's programming and re-enable the other boxes by instructing them through the datastream.
