When I started doing cable there wasn't such a monster as the prep tool that I knew of..I am like your buddy I always preferred the utility knife over those prep tools, but I have since learned to like them..HaHa there are a lot of people I bet that used a utility knife that are still around. A guy told me one time that if you use a utility knife you will score the conductor, I said no you won't ...then I cut one and he said " Damn"...Who has ever used a nine volt battery hooked to wires soldered onto a F-81 for a toner..yep.
