Trucking is a good field to get into if you can stand long hours at the wheel and handle a big rig in tight spaces (all your time driving isn't spent hauling a$$ down the interstate, in town driving can get pretty hairy at times). If your a company driver it can be pretty stable, not the greatest of pay or hours (they expect a lot from you, just like any company in any industry), going independent can in the long run earn you more moola, but you really have to have some skills to broker your own loads so you can make the most of your fuel & time.
I've got a number of friends who are truckers, some company men, some indies. One of them just quit driving and is working as a diesel mechanic and a couple of the others say they are getting ready to come off the road. But seems like they are always saying that, and yet they just keep on trucking on.
