Re: "Searching for Signal" during storms

Rain fade is typically the diminishing of the amount of signal gain caused by the scattering of the signal as it hits droplets in the sky. You can overcome this to a degree by increasing the amount of signal you are receiving at the dish. This means improving the alignment if you aren't peaked out yet or getting a larger dish if you can't get anymore signal. Make sure all connectors and cabling are in good shape so that there isn't any excessive loss of signal there either.

If you don't have any metering equipment for aligning the dish, you can have him go out to the dish and call you from a cellphone. Put the receiver on the point dish screen and raise the volume so he can hear the meter. It is important that all adjustments are done real slow as the receivers tend not to be immediately responsive to changes so he will have to wait a bit to see improvements. There is delay to consider when pointing.
