Re: FTTP...What's difference from CIC placement

Hello. CIC ( cable in conduit ) has normally been CATV drop wire that is plowed or buried, normally with the drop wire already inside the 3/4" or 1" flexible plastic pipe. I am sure you must be aware of your local depth specifications for that. FTTP ( fiber to the premise ) is being handled differently per contract or jurisdiction. Normally during FTTP, if we are talking Service Runs, the 1.25" HDPE conduit w/mule tape is placed from the HandHole or Ped to Telco's NID area on the house or building. In the majority of contracts , that is all that is done, placing the duct, the the Tel techs then pull the proper wire during the fiber upgrade process and installation. The old copper runs are protected and avoided during the FTTP placement, as they must remain active until the changeover. Usually, with the CATV CIC , it doesn't matter to much if the existing drop we are replacing is damaged, because we can normally activate the new one, as long as we can secure any hazards until the proper enclosure can be attached. This is not allowed with the FTTP. Also, with FTTP, suggested/specified depth must be maintained tp protect the run and the duct. They are not going to splice the fiber in the middle of the run, as has been done with copper ( Tel or CATV ) in the past ( too costly ). Hope this has been a little help ? If more information is required, please reply. (nod)(wave)
