I was at AT&T around the time of that merger. 2001-ish I think. The cable side of AT&T did EVERYTHING in the world to keep union AT&T core employees seperate from the new AT&T Broadban guys. It some work locations, they built a a 12 foot wall in call center sepreating the 2 workers. The workers constantly tried to bargin to get access to the job tittles in AT&T Broadband they wouldnt break.
Cable/Sat has a long way to go. As long as the majority of us are satisfied with 6$ discos & 46/12.50 installs the fight will be much harder for those who would like to work in this industry and make good money like others in the telecom industry.
JMANN's testimony is yet another example of how hard it is to bring working conditions in cable/sat in line with others in our industry. After you vote to be union, you must stay strong. Dont be satisfied with just winning an election. Dont stop pushing until you get a contract thats FAIR.
