AS I watched some filmed footages from New Orleans last night , I realised there are storys not being told , Truths of why some communites have not been rebuilt in La. and elsewhere , Is it the impending threat of the cycle of which we are in for hurricanes . I think of the barrier islands that skirt our Coast here in North Carolina. All of the New construction of condos everywhere . Fishing Piers being toppled to make way for condos and single family housing, sand being sold by the square inch. I think of my mom and dad and tales from old people around here that you couldn't get to buy property on the barrier island. Why ???? they lived through Hazel, I believe it was 1954 when she came ashore , she cut new inlets and slues everwhere . I remember of my parents telling of how all the head boats were sitting in the street on the waterfront . I recall the story told by David Lee of the massive destruction it caused to Bouge Banks . As years pass people seem to forget about Mother Natures fury . I also think back to a conservation between myself and Joe Baldwin as he spoke of staying in his beach house during a cat.3 hurricane and how it was blowing water right through the wood on his window sills, how the whole house shook, how afaraid he was and that he would never sit through another one. I think of all the hurricanes I have personally been through. I recall so vividly the dead pony blown from Carrot Island to Radio Island , all of the Dead animals killed by the floods caused by Hurricane Floyd far inland a long way from our Coastline. As this years Hurricane season is apon us , I have an ominus feeling . Who's next , how many lives will be forever changed in the blinking of an eye. My advice to all is if it is above a cat 3 get the heck out the way, pack and leave , take with you the things you hold precious to your heart ,as you might never get the chance to see them again if you leave them behind. When will people learn build your house on the rock , I think never . The tranquility and call of the ocean seems to affect many not to recall the past . But the reality of Mother Nature always rings a bell. Some of you might where is he going with this . Be prepared , plan your evacauation route early. Don't wait for the Goverment to hold your hand. I am also writing this to remind everybody that comes to the aftermath of the hacks , scammers and thieves we have all seen come after a good hurricane . A word of advice to all is if the people ,you are considering working for is , if they are not the verifible prime or a sub their of, beware. Companys are no better than their people. Hacks and poor work can even keep primes from getting paid. Even the best and largest companys fall sometimes. The Mother companys people turn into aholes and fall guys. Everyone tries to blame someone else. Hurricanes are always a cluster f..k of mismanagement and micromanagement and lies told to the contractor. I have never as of yet been to a properly managed hurricane situation . The mother company always runs out of supplys to rebuild their system or even enough to piece patch it back together. The worst thing I hate about working a hurricane ,is how they will work you day and night to piece patch a system back together, and all one sudden they throw up their hands and say , its over with , you all can go home , no warning , the day before work was endless. A word of caution , if you see supplys dwindling at the warehouse, the end is near, or be prepared to set on your keester with no downtime pay as they wait on supplys, Yep hurricanes can be lucrative, "FOR SOME" others lose their butt. So before you head out to one of these disasters , remember these words. "LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP STILL WATER RUNS DEEP"
