Wow, 28 yrs in CATV... installations, service, maintenance and some construction...
Left a company doing installs recently because I was simply fed up with the way the place was run, inconsistent pay and routing...
Asked several times to remedy the situation and was repeatedly told that it "is what it is"... also told repeatedly that if I left, there would be a six month no compete clause to keep me from working in same system... the system I've been in for most of my 28 yrs... Over half my damn life...
I gave the owner plenty of advance notice... tried like hell to have him understand why I was unhappy... was told lies to keep me there until I just couldn't take it anymore... got to the point that I was so disgusted with working there that I was willing to do anything to get the hell out and I did....
Yes, I violated the no compete and worked for another Prime...
Kept it a pretty good secret for a while too. Did excellent work with this Prime as I did with the other and was given good work every day and good routes for the most part..
Well, the ol' man found out about me... told me to kiss his ass for my retainage and told me he was "coming after me".. a veiled threat....
Now it seems the MSO is backing his no compete... I guess they would rather take a man with my experience and good completion record out of the field doing their installations rather than to have to listen to the incessant whining and ranting that he is capable of doing...
I came to his company with almost 24 yrs experience... he has NOTHING invested in my training... not one red cent...
Never borrowed a dime from him either, never asked for anything other than to have his supervisors treat me with respect, respect I earned by doing the work for his company and doing it well...
0% QC fails 3 out of 5 months... less than 3% the other two..
Yet the MSO is going to side with this bloodsucker...never mind that five or six other installers have done the same thing I did... I have to be the scapegoat..
It's not over just yet but the odds aint in my favor... I don't know whose pocket this guy is in over at the MSO but whoever it is sure seems to be afraid to man up and tell him to fk off.
So, here I sit, stolen retainage, possible unemployment in the next few days because the MSO would rather side with a thief and a liar rather than let an honest man earn a damn living...
