Yes.
Anyone who fills out an SS8 is automatically flagged. You will be checked to see if you had filed your income taxes in the past several years.
I submitted an SS8 many years ago and got a letter from the IRS saying I had not filed my taxes the previous year. An accusation that was completely false. It was a real hassle to straighten it out. I even showed the IRS a complete copy of the entire filing plus a copy of the check the IRS cashed and it still was not enough.
The idiots I submitted the SS8 on sent me a statement about a year later, in pencil, torn, that did not make any sense.
If you must have your retainage, sue them in small claims court.
