Job Summary: JOB SUMMARY - CABLE SPLICER TRAINEE
Learns to operate power equipment, drive trucks, install transformers, switch gear and other equipment, install and splice cables, dig and backfill trenches and prepare time sheets and other associated paper work. Works with energized electric cables in vaults, manholes, and ditches. Learns to climb poles and works from aerial lift. Learns to operate electronic fault locating equipment and high voltage equipment. Is required to work during emergencies. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
1. Training, education and/or experience in a technical or vocational field, or equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience.
2. Physical ability to perform job duties (i.e. climb poles and ladders, lift heavy equipment, work in manholes/cramped spaces)
3. Ability to meet U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration weight restriction for bucket trucks when wearing required tools.
4. Willingness to work under adverse weather conditions, in vehicular traffic, and around energized electric cables.
5. Satisfactory completion of the Construction and Skilled Trades Test Battery.
6. Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet Company driving standards. Ability to obtain appropriate Commercial Driver’s License, Class A, where appropriate.
7. Must pass U.S. Department of Transportation required Chemical Test.
