$.44 is "MORE" than enough to compensate a tech driving his own truck??? What have you been smoking? When I was a B&A tech I got paid $60/$25/$40/$25 (base/additional/upgrade/service call), based on that if I did three- three outlet installs and a service call in one day I got paid $355 and I might have to drive 100-130 miles a day. Now with B&A going to hourly rates (last hourly rate I was quoted for COV techs who had been there two to three years was $12.48 per hour) doing the same work would get me $99.84 plus $57.20 (for 130 miles @ $.44 per mile) for a grand total of $157.04. Sounds like the tech is getting screwed (which B&A has become an expert at doing) out of about $197 to me. I forgot you have to add in that whopping $12 or $15 a week for cellphone usage that they are graciously willing to pay and that would bring the tech's total up to about $159.04 a day and only a $195 ****ing, boy howdy what a deal, sign me up, NOT!
B&A execs are bold face liars. They tell the techs that all these changes are good for them, but what they don't tell the techs is that the "THEM" they are referring to are themselves and the company, not the techs.
